First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Kennett was established on May 18th, 1889. We live in a country where there is a different church on every corner, and while they may look alike on the outside, it's hard to know what to expect on the inside. First Christian Church is dedicated to the value of Christian unity. We do not see ourselves as being "in competition with" or "in opposition to" any other Christian denomination. We believe that every individual Christian must make a confession of faith in Christ. Beyond that, we do not impose any particular creed or set of doctrines on those who choose to worship here. While some churches have adopted particular interpretations of scripture or insist on conformity to certain beliefs in order to be members of their churches, we have firmly decided not to do that. Membership in our church is based solely upon faith in Christ. The particulars of anyone's beliefs are a matter between him, or her, and God. Many families who bring different church traditions into their marriage have found our church to be a welcome "umbrella" of faith under which their whole family can express their faith and find opportunities to serve the Kingdom of God.
